Moorcroft Limited Edition Endeavour Vase

Moorcroft Limited Edition Endeavour Vase, MCR-119

Originally founded as a studio in 1897 within a large ceramic company, James Macintyre & Co. Moorcroft pottery soon made its mark on the world. Today, Moorcroft leads the world of art pottery with its own distinctive design style. C W Sellors are proud to present this Moorcroft collection featuring stunning pottery designs inspired by HMS Endeavour.

This limited edition vase, which are all signed and numbered, took inspiration from HMS Endeavour, which was a British Royal Navy research vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded to Australia and New Zealand on his first voyage of discovery from 1768 to 1771.  She was launched in 1764 as the collier Earl of Pembroke, and the navy purchased her in 1768 for a scientific mission to the Pacific Ocean to explore the seas for the surmised Terra Australis Incognita or ‘unknown southern land’.  This design features HMS Endeavor in her heyday, bobbing amongst the wild Yorkshire waves which in turn, lash against the coastal cliffs. In 2018, a replica of the ship arrived in Whitby to form part of a new tourist attraction.  The full-scale copy of Endeavour was towed 40 miles by sea from Middlesbrough. Now transformed into a floating museum, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Cook’s first expedition to the Pacific. Visitors are welcome to step aboard HM Bark Endeavour and dive into her rich history as a discovery vessel on the high seas. Last one available so please order early to avoid disappointment.
